Gekokujō: Strategy and Conquest in the Palm of Your Hand (Game Boy)
If you're a fan of strategy games and nostalgic for the Game Boy era, then Gekokujō might be just what you need. Created by JackOatley, this title, though unfinished, offers an interesting Risk-like gameplay proposition set in the turbulent Sengoku period of Japan.
The game puts you in the shoes of Oda, fighting against 6 rival clans and rebels on a massive campaign map spanning 61 regions. Instead of dice, *Gekokujō* uses a card system, adding an extra layer of strategy and decision-making.
Game Screenshots
Although this is a prototype, the game shows an attractive visual design for Game Boy standards. Here are some screenshots to give you an idea of what to expect:
What to Expect?
An extensive campaign map with 61 regions.
AI for campaign and battles.
An 82-card deck.
Limitations:
Features removed for stability: Daimyo and Shinobis.
Non-functional retreat, affecting rebel gameplay.
No win or lose conditions.
Despite its limitations, the developer shares that he used ChatGPT to help in the art composition and that the music and sound effects are courtesy of TipTopTomCat.
