Keyhole: A Free Space Management Sim by Cheeseness

Keyhole, developed by Cheeseness in collaboration with Cassie Benter and Albarnie, is a space simulation game where you must protect the remnants of humanity from solar threats. Created for the Space Game Junkie 500th podcast jam, this title allows you to recover lost infrastructure and safeguard the planet.

This game, available for Windows, macOS, and Linux, offers an experience where exploration and experimentation are key. If at first there don't seem to be many options, try building and exploring to unlock new research!

Key Features:

  • 4 satellite types to repair and build.

  • 22 researchable upgrades.

  • 2 celestial bodies with 4 orbits each.

  • 2 classes of space threats.

  • 7 collectable data disks (although they currently have no function).

  • 1 end-game event with two possible outcomes.

  • Support for keyboard, gamepad, and mouse (although movement still requires keyboard).

Known Issues:

The game is still under development and has some limitations:

  • There is only one music track, and it only plays in the main menu.

  • Sound effects are missing.

  • The collectable data disks do not activate the scenes that were initially planned.

  • The gamepad is not fully functional in the management screens.

  • Some graphical interface elements are not themed.

  • HUD icons do not automatically scale in large windows.

  • There are no visual effects for asteroids impacting the planets.

  • There is no limit to the speed of time.

  • The story and themes of the game are not very present in these versions.

Conclusion:

Despite its known issues, Keyhole offers an interesting and free space simulation experience. If you enjoy management games with a strategic touch, it's worth checking out. You can download it from its itch.io page.
