Dstroy 2: The Spirit of Bombermania Revived in Pixel Art
Get ready, classic action and strategy game lovers, because Dstroy 2 has arrived to ignite the spark of nostalgia. Developed by Fully Bugged, this pixel art title presents itself as the worthy spiritual successor to the iconic *Bomberman* series, offering a modern experience with an unmistakable retro charm. It is the direct sequel to "Dstroy", a game first released on MS-DOS in 1995.
What is Dstroy 2?
Dstroy 2 is a 2D pixel-art puzzle-action adventure game, playable solo or in couch co-op. Additionally, it transforms into a competitive orthogonal maze top-down battle-royale, clearly inspired by the explosive gameplay that made *Bomberman* famous. The mission is simple: strategically place bombs to destroy obstacles, defeat enemies, and be the last player standing or the first to solve the maze.
Game Modes Offered (and Coming Soon):
Fully Bugged has big plans for Dstroy 2, structuring the game into three main modes:
1. Adventure (Solo or Co-op): This mode, not available in the current demo, will allow players to explore challenging maps solo or with a friend. It will be the "premium pack" of the final game, offering Steam achievements and trading cards.
2. Tournaments (Vs. 2 to 4 Players): Fully available in the demo, this local competitive mode is the heart of the multiplayer experience. It includes different gameplay styles such as:
* Classic: The traditional *Bomberman* experience.
* Roots: A variant with its own rules.
* Paint: Where each explosion colors the ground, adding a strategic layer.
AI bots are available to complete the player roster or for you to train your skills.
3. Survival (Solo or Co-op): A challenging solo or co-op score ladder mode. Players will face a slowly sinking lava world, with a slightly randomized map layout in each game. With only one life (even in co-op), it will test your skills to the maximum.
Development Status and Platforms:
Currently in development, Dstroy 2 is available in its demo version for Windows and Linux. For now, there are no plans for a MacOS version. The developers have indicated that, while the game will not feature native online mode at the moment, they recommend using Parsec to play remotely with friends on the Itch.io versions. The game has been created with the impressive open-source ORX Engine, and the art with Aseprite.
The Fully Bugged Community:
The developers invite the community to actively participate in the development process. You can interact with them via their Discord or on their social media, whose links are available on their Linktree, in addition to the Itch.io forum.
